Peter Waiganjo heads the Venture Development Unit in Amref Health Africa in Kenya. He is the technical lead on identification, design and commercialization of enterprise portfolio within Amref in Kenya while inculcating entrepreneurial spirit within the traditionally grant-funded programs. Peter is responsible for infusing current programs with new approaches and strategies while simultaneously cultivating new partnerships on new enterprise areas and ideas to connect entrepreneurs and social innovators to funding to take ideas from inception to scale. Peter works with a variety of Health Sector stakeholders including the private sector to translate knowledge ideas into successful social enterprises while building capabilities for sustainable programs’ design and implementation.
Prior to Amref Health Africa, Peter worked in various capacities with Safaricom Limited, Excelsior & Wellness Groups, Biodeal Laboratories Limited, International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), and the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme (KWTRP). Peter’s background training and experience cut across business development and management, programme management, health systems strengthening, health financing, biomedical and operational research skills, and customer service leadership; affording him excellent knowledge and understanding of health systems management, pharmaceuticals, global public health, and Universal Health Coverage. He is also well versed with community based health systems strengthening, Entrepreneurship & Innovations management, strategic networking and relationship management, and the Human Resources for Health (HRH).
Peter also holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Healthcare Management from Strathmore Business School, a BSc degree in Biochemistry from Egerton University and a host of other professional qualifications. Peter is also a fellow in the INSEAD leadership programme on Social Entrepreneurship for developing sustainable social ventures.
